Session 7 8/10/18

We are nearing the end…(of secondary research):

It was a pleasure to hear that Dave would be able to make it to the class on Monday morning, after initially saying to us that he wouldn’t be able to. While his appearance to the class was delayed, Orla, who has been with us for the past couple of weeks, took over the first 45 minutes of the session. We went through the literature checklist and discussed it in class.

Dave took control of the class after this. He told us to go on the computers for the next hour and verify our secondary sources, so that they are proven and we are not just making statements. After we finished our verification, we had the option to do further secondary research. After an intense 60 minutes, we took a break.

When we returned, Dave told us if we needed to make changes to our hypothesis/research question, in light of our research.

After this, we needed to pay full attention to this next part. For our task which we started in this class, we had to scan through our secondary research blog, and look for patterns, repetitions, and absences. We would then need to get physical pages and give each observation a page. We also had to get a separate page for an introduction, which was breaking our hypothesis/research question down, and also have another page for miscellaneous notes in our blog. This would be the conclusion of this session…

Since the last session:

There is not much to report on since the last class, and definitely not as much since my last blog! I have been working on my task that I mentioned above, which I will be discussing more about later on in my blog.

I saw Venom on Tuesday night. It was the first time using a student deal so I enjoyed that! I heard mixed reviews on the film but personally, I enjoyed it and found it entertaining. There were some questionable CGI moments during the movie. You will see a photo of a particular moment down below! I recommend seeing it, as it is mainly the critics that are giving the film a negative review, while the user reviews are a lot more positive.

Update on tasks:

As mentioned above, I completed my verification of my sources in class, while I began organising my secondary research at the end of the session and finished it at home. I believe I fulfilled the tasks that were outlined in the project management plan. We went through the literature review, I completed my secondary research verification, and revisited my hypothesis to make sure I was happy with it. I have also finished my secondary research organisation. I am on track to meet my next deadline. However, I was under a bit of time pressure as the organising part did take me about 3-4 hours to complete, but I am content that I completed it in time.

Risks/Issues:

When Dave first explained the organising part to us, I was slightly confused. At the end of the session, I brought this to his attention. He explained it to me personally and I had a clearer insight of what I had to do.

Problems:

Though Dave helped me a lot with explaining what he had to do for the organising, I was still nervous that I was going it wrong. To overcome this, I asked my mom if she could check the PowerPoint where it explained what we were suppose to do. After looking at it, she explained it to me and luckily, I was doing it right! As I said above, I ended up finishing my task pretty late, but I want to make sure this doesn’t happen next time I am doing a task.

New ideas and global changes:

There were changes to the project management plan for this session. We were going to talk about getting contacts for our primary research in the next class, but we will have to wait a little bit longer for that!

Personal Reflection:

This was the first task that I did have difficulty with as I needed a bit of help to understand what I was suppose to do. Despite just about finishing the task on time, I believe I have performed to an acceptable standard, but I hope to perform better in the future! I’m hoping I can improve my timing on completing tasks too. I can not think of any moments that I helped my peers in this session, but I hope this will change in future classes!

Before next session:

Since I have completed my tasks for the next session, I do not have any more tasks that need to be completed. I am just eagerly waiting for the next class!

Deadlines:

According to the project management plan, I am happy to say that I am on schedule!

Tutor comments:

The only comments I needed addressed by Dave were the ones about the organising. Other than that, I have no other comments for him!
